Swan Nesting

Well disguised though this swan nest is, it is a lot more vulnerable to predators than when the nest was built and eggs laid. The water level in Seafield Pond was much higher and the reed bed at that time was a virtual island. Let's hope the cygnets hatched this year do as well as those last year. There were originally six cygnets and despite losing their father early on in the season (he was mauled by a dog and had to be put down) five of them survived to early adulthood in the autumn.
