RKYC at dusk
For half my life I lived down the street from this turreted building, the home of the local yacht club. There used to be a corner store right in front that sold a wide and fascinating selection of penny candy. It was right beside the ferry crossing. That was years ago now, when I was young, before the ferry moved its crossing upriver and the store closed and candy got more expensive. But the yacht club and its distinctive building is still there, and thriving.
Tonight, for the first time ever, I walked into this building. The choir I belong to was invited for dinner here, and the meal was delicious! But I felt a bit strange to be there, sitting with friends, indoors with the light and laughter and smell of good food, and outside a light rain falling and the past not so far away, after all.
