Calon Lan

Gadael Tir/Leave Land is a bilingual two-man show about Welsh land rights (and wrongs) from the agricultural slavery of landless peasants to the appropriation of the countryside by English landowners and Westminster government diktat. For centuries Welsh people have been forced off their ancestral hills and valleys to make way for hunting, sheep farming, coal mines and reservoirs.

As the two very accomplished performers sang Calon Lan I wondered if they knew that the author of this beloved tune was born only a couple of miles away from where we were  and that a touching but not very obvious piece of art pays tribute to him even closer to our seats in Cardigan's Small World Theatre.
