100th anniversary
I attended a small local event at Fenton Barns. It used to be RAF Drem airfield, famous for both inventing the Drem lighting system to allow spitfires to land at night (subsequently adopted by all RAF airfields during the war) and also for having despatched the plane that took the first 'kill' of the war when German Junkers tried to attack Firth of Forth shipping. This chap is 96 years old and was stationed here during the war. It was quite an emotional experience for him as he recalled events from 77 years ago and unveiled the new information board.
