Fortingall Hotel
After yesterday's exertions, we were accommodated in the very comfortable Fortingall Hotel.
Adjacent to the hotel is the Fortingall Parish church whose graveyard houses the ancient Fortingall Yew tree which is reputed to be at least 2000 years old.
During the night, an 'intruder' broke into the hotel and tried a few doors, eventually finding the room on the first floor above the main entrance unlocked and unoccupied. He made himself at home. During their early morning rounds, the chamber maids noticed blood on the door handle and when they discovered the intruder asleep inside, promptly locked the door. The local police were called at first light. When the constable arrived, he was shown to the room by the manager. They unlocked the door and slowly pushed it open.
The room was empty, the window was open. The intruder had made good his escape down the drainpipe that can be seen to the right of the main entrance in the photo above. He had jumped into a car and set off along the single-track roads towards Aberfeldy.
It was only a matter of time before he was apprehended and was promptly taken to the cells at Pitlochry.
