~Gambel's Quail Sunset~

~Callipepla Gambelil~

The nights are getting cooler, a month ago nighttime temperatures were in the low 80's but tonight the mid to upper 50's. I believe this little bird is catching the last warming rays of daylight. It will then hunker down in the desert brush, fluff its feathers and conserve it body heat till the morning sunlight rewarms the earth. The younger and smaller offspring will have to learn this behavior from its elders as winter is approaching quickly. Mid-winter temperatures can dip into the mid 10's and 20's and they will have to store this life preserving warmth through the long nights. Stay well and keep cozy my little friend.

Thanks for looking in, TucsonJim ;o)
