Electrifying...

The day had been overcast, drizzle and downpours accenting the hours as they ticked by. It didn't matter how busy they were, the thoughts of the summer left behind kept creeping into their minds.

Still not sure that the world was round, the journey of the sun proved it that day. Both morning and evening. The sun appeared only twice as fiery ball painting the sky orange before hiding all day long and selfishly holding back warmth and light.
When it did appear, it was through letterbox slots of cloud both east and west. In the morning blinding them as they arrived and in the evening striking the gun metal if the pylon and coating it burnt orange. Flat, therefore the world was flat...except the arc of the rainbow set to prove the theory wrong.

Something about the inconstant nature of the rainbow both excited and disappointed. They saw hope and promise, new and challenging and then like the flip side of the coin... absence and longing. At least the possibility was there, the chance of it returning once more. They could take comfort in that, surely?
