Elusive
An Asphodel, possibly Asphodelus damascena but the label went missing long ago. Raised from seed sown early in 2016, I've been admiring the narrow, twisted foliage for two years. Densely packed with buds the flower stems promised a spectacular display but as it happens, the flowers open a few at a time, each lasting less than twenty four hours .... oh, and they only open after the sun has moved off them in the afternoon. Perhaps in their wild habitat they are pollinated by insects that fly only after the heat of the day has passed. Shy and retiring but still beautiful in my eyes.
A lovely early summer day. Mum has been enjoying our summerhouse as a place to sit and knit or listen to/watch programs on her iPad. In between household duties I've been pottering round doing garden and plant related jobs. The latest replanted trough is finished now I think. Some more little gems awaiting their blip turns :-)
