The Green
Not much green on The Green. At some point a very very long time the locals used to drag up their boats here to be safe from the tide, later it was on the main road into Aberdeen. One of the two pubs claiming to be the oldest in Aberdeen is situated here. It is named "Old Kings Highway" which alludes to the time when this was on primary route into the town. Now due to the development of a couple of very ugly buildings and the building of the elevated mile long Union Street, The Green has lost its significance. There used to be a market here, but that has gone also.
It was very stormy overnight with a strong wind and heavy rain lashing against the windows. The wind and rain continued into the early part of the morning. When I went outside I realised there was some slush mixed up with the rain.
By mid morning the rain had eased off and the sun came out. We were at Marks and Spencer for a coffee, and I had managed to stay dry on my way into town, apart from my trousers where I had sat on the bus, unfortunately the seat was very wet.
Later despite the sunshine the wind was very cold, and felt as if it had just arrived from the Arctic. In the afternoon we had showers and sunshine, but the wind remained through the afternoon.
The photograph shows The Green just after the rain had stopped temporarily. Carefully positioned myself so the photograph hides the ugly buildings at each end of The Green.
