It's getting expensive...........!!
When you add the pair of Jays to the list of birds that already eat from our peanut feeders, Magpies, Green Finches, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Coal Tits and Willow Tits, it's hardly suprising that they're collectively going through one and a half feeders worth of nuts a day.
We currently have two, three inch diameter by twelve inches long feeders hanging in the back garden and a single feeder in the front garden.
The feeder in the front garden hasn't been discovered by the Jays or Magpies, yet, but does have regular visits from very large Wood Pigeons, Sparrows and Blue Tits.
At the moment, i'm using around 8kgs of nuts, 2kgs of wild bird food / seed, 15 to 20 fat balls, 2 loaves of bread, and half a kg of sunflower seed per week. Oh, not forgetting the 3 pints of maggots from the local fishing tackle shop.
Last summer we had more Green Finches in the garden than any other type of bird, probably between 20 and 30 at given time of the day.
This year we'll have been lucky to see 20 in a week.........
Expensive........?? Perhaps, but i wouldn't be without the birds in the garden.
Here's a J as opposed to a j........
