Sheltering from the north wind...
Contrary to the forecast of a few days ago, it was largely overcast with a strong northerly breeze, not ideal for a day of fieldwork on a largely exposed site. On Monday I sweltered, today I shivered!
Despite the inclement conditions, a short spell of sunshine brought out a lot of absolutely pristine Common Blue butterflies. Most were struggling to fly or hanging on to precariously swaying flowers, but this one had found a relatively sheltered corner and perched on this Hoary Cress for long enough for me to take its photograph. Brown Argus and Grizzled Skipper were around too, but I didn't have a chance with them!
