Las casas pintadas, Girona

We went to Girona today, for a touristy day of strolling around. It was the feast day of St Narcis (the patron saint of Girona), and when we arrived there was a wacky raft race in full swing on the river Onyar. It didn't take long for most of the rafts to capsize -- I think that was the point really.

It's some years since we last visited Girona. It has a cathedral, seen at top right in this photo, with the widest Gothic nave in the world (22 metres). The cathedral museum has a really wonderful 11th-century tapestry of the Creation -- a must-see if you are visiting Girona for the first time. Apart from that, Girona is a nice place for a stroll -- the narrow streets of the old town are very picturesque.

I blipped before going out yesterday evening -- we had a lovely time at the Aiguaclara in Begur. They have a "vinyl night" every Friday, with a DJ playing vinyl records from about the 1940s to the 1970s. When we arrived about 9, it was packed and there were no free tables, but we sat down by the DJ for a drink, and to enjoy the music for a while before trying elsewhere, and after about half an hour the manager found us a table. The staff were friendly, the food was good -- and relatively cheap for Begur, at 27 euros for three courses -- and we had a lovely bottle of local wine priced at only 11 euros. We'll be back!

Before I forget, we're having a mini-blipmeet in Sant Feliu de Guixols next Thursday. Only me and chaiselongue at present, but it would be great to meet some other Catalan blippers!
