Cleaner

Ruths last day on the trains here this year. Duty today : Cleaner. 7am start ....so I was up at 6am to make sure she got to the sheds on time. Loco volunteers all start as Cleaners, progressing to Passed Cleaner, Fireman and finally Driver. And yes, there are Lady Drivers! Indeed todays driver was Liz, one of that select band. As Ruths experience grows she is being given the chance to fire the engine, in this case under Liz's supervision. Here she is, holding on tight as Tom Rolt accelerates away from Quarry Sidings this afternoon. She's had a rough time over the last few years but TR Therapy is the best medicine.
