History time
It is one of the oldest parish churches in Hampshire and for years I passed it daily, yet I have to admit to having visited it only twice.
The village church at Nursling lies just off the M27 motorway and can be seen by the hundreds of motorists who like me in the past, pass that way every day. Though owing its ancestery back in the 13th century, its claim to fame is thought to go back even further to when a Benedictine monastery was established tin the locality around the mid 600AD, and possibly on the site of the present church..
History has it that the monastery was a major centre of learning at the time and the young Boniface studied under the Abbot to go on to become a missionary in northern Europe.
At any rate the present day church is dedicated to St Boniface and some say he had a deep influence on Europe of the time.
