Two more days...

I can attest to the fact that there is nobody at Peet's at 6:30 on Saturday morning. As has been the case for the last week or so, we were awake, so we deeded to get an early start on the day. It was still dark at 6:30, but tonight the clocks go back an hour, so tomorrow it will be lighter in the morning but dark depressingly early in the evening.
.
I took a picture at this traffic island because the signs are asking us to vote for local city and county ordinances which OilMan thinks is noteworthy. When I looked at the picture, I realized it was quite an essay on a number of things I will not be sorry to leave behind.

1. The island itself blocks entry onto the street. There are many of these blockades all over the city. Some close the street completely, some force one to turn back in the direction one just came from. all are designed to keep traffic confined to the major arteries and off the smaller streets. I can never remember where they are.

2. At some point the city must have gotten a new sign maker because suddenly multiple signs warning of the obvious (cross traffic may not stop, the annoying (no parking 3rd Wednesday of the month),
the incomprehensible (trucks make wide right turns) and the just plain ugly.

3.Berkeley politics mimic those of the state, which means that our elected representatives can't agree on anything, so they turn the process over to the voters who can't either. We compromised by confining ourselves to the state and national issues.

A small bonus was that I noticed the clever Halloween face in the windows of the house on the corner. It brings a smile to my face and reminds me that Berkeley is full of interesting, creative and entertaining individuals.
