Some like it hot
It's hot. At 28ºC, it's hotter today in Oslo that it was at any point earlier in the week in Porto. Hot enough to bring my thoughts back to a new ventilation system for the house, or maybe a reversible heat-pump we can use as a air conditioner for the few weeks a year it's warranted. We'll be sleeping underground in the basement 'spare' room tonight, where it's cool and dark.
There's much to do domestically, but I struggle to raise much enthusiasm after a tiring week. I replace the outside tap in the afternoon, which had been destroyed by freezing temperatures just a few months ago. This in turn facilitates pressure washing the deck and paving around the house.
In the evening we barbecue. Liz creates enough fire to sterilise anything that's grown in there since we last used it. Afterwards I play frisbee with Jacob and Freya. Both the kids have evidently been practicing.
When the children are off to bed, we sit out on the back stoep (for some reason we use the Afrikaans word for our back veranda; for the one at the front we use the North American "porch"), and drink our beer while Liz reads about robot geologists.
