Flags and Pennies

On Friday of this week, our D-I-L Heather went out and helped a group that placed a flag on every headstone of our national cemetery. Today, we went out to see the effort.

But, in addition to the flags being placed, many of the headstones had pennies on the top of them. A penny on the top of the stone signifies that someone has paid a visit.

I was proud of Merrick. He was upset that every headstone did not have a penny on it. So, we rummaged through our pockets and purses and found a handful of pennies. He then proceeded to find the graves that were penniless, and made sure they got one.
