Resounding
After what was at times a disgusting and bitter campaign on the part of the No side, we voted on 25th May to decide if the controversial 8th Amendment should be removed from the Constitution.
We checked the state of the count on Saturday morning, expecting an indication of how things were trending. Instead of that the result was already known: a resounding 66% in favour of repeal. The vote took place just three years after the passing of the same-sex marriage referendum. The two results show just how much Ireland has changed.
