'n Kiekie 'n Dag

I had all intentions to post an outdoor blip today. Don't know what happened.

Had coffee & cheese scones at the church's coffee morning. Then off to Morrisons for a shop. (Morrisons because they give vouchers for 15p off on fuel.) Back home we had toast for lunch en then tried to copy a song for my mom - Sien jou weer by Coenie de Villiers. She asked if I could copy it for her, because she wants it to be played on her funeral. We've never copied music before. To be honest I don't like copying South African artists - must rather support them by buying the CD. I'm not so worried about copying overpaid, arrogant, so-called celebs' music, but that's another argument for another day.

While we were working out what to do - a knock on the door. Guilty consciences thought it was the police, but it was only Rob, Allan & Georgia on a bike ride stopping for a cuppa. Seeing that Rob is an IT man, he then took over the copying. After tea they tasted the Islay whiskey we don't like & thought it was heavenly. See a dinner party coming up in the near future with them having to finish the bottle .

It turned out that we don't have the song Mom is looking for anyway. We have a version where it is combined with Shosoloza - not what she wants - so we went onto Amazon & bought the last copy of the original CD for £5. Much less trouble & don't have to feel guilty.

We've been looking for Eissbein since we came to England, but they haven't heard of it. Yesterday Morrisons had cured pork knuckle for £1.99 each. Not exactly Eisbein, but near enough. We bought one each for dinner, because we thought there wouldn't be much meat on the bone. We were wrong. We could have cooked only one & have left overs to have with eggs for breakfast. Morrisons will definetely be visited again to get a few for the freezer.

"As die son sou ophou beur
teen die rotse van die kus
en die rustelose wolke
bo die horison sou rus
as die pendulum sou aarsel
en vir ewig ophou swaai,
die planete in hul wentelbaan
geruisloos ophou draai

Bly my liefde onveranderd
word my hart 'n erdekruik
wat jy elke dag kan volmaak
en bewaar vir jou gebruik

As die breë en diep rivier
skielik stol en ophou vloei;
Die ranonkels in my voortuin
nog vir oulaas eenmaal bloei
As die son oplaas sy hitte
Teen die middaguur sou blus
en die pyn van menseharte
in die noodlot wou berus

Bly my liefde onveranderd
word my hart 'n erdekruik
wat jy elke dag kan volmaak
en bewaar vir jou gebruik

As die klok meteens die ure
na soveel eeue ophou tel
en 'n ma teen skemeraand
haar oor 'n kind kon ophou kwel
As die wintervuur se kole
skielik kwyn en ophou gloei
en die man daar teen die dwarshout
se twee hande ophou bloei"
