A Tandem
That's what this coupling is called, it appears. It's a pair of Large Red Damselflies, according to my quick research. I was impressed at the agility and strength of the female, and the coordination of both in their flight as well as their egg-laying.
The female is mostly underwater in this shot, with her head and wings just above the surface. Her abdomen is bowed, I assume in the process of laying eggs on leaves underwater.
This is my first serious use of my new Fuji 50-230 zoom and I'm pretty impressed.
