Burnished Blue

Britain's largest damselfly is a common sight from early summer and today was no exception on the banks of the river on my dogwalk. Trying to get up close and personal to the more than numerous fluttering wings was totally another matter. 

He was very territorial catching very small insects on the wing but really didn't like Tilly and Poppy staring and panting nearby and didn't stay long here. As soon as I got with 2m of any at all they flew which was slightly frustrating.

My Extra is an immature White-legged Damselfly.

Both of these like slow running water with dense vegetation and nettle beds on the banks.
