Too SOFT for the job

I made a start cleaning our caravan this morning, using a telescopic brush that I bought a couple of years ago just for that job. It leaked at every joint the first time that I used it and the only way I could stop the leaks to reseal every non adjustable joint with araldite. Today, its third time of use, the knob for the built in tap sheared off. I'm now in the middle of making a new one from brass. I can't just replace the tap, that was one of the joints that I fixed last year:-(
