Arley Green
We took ourselves off to Arley Hall and had a quick look round the Art and Craft Fair before heading off for a walk around the estate.
Our walk took us through Arley Green which is a small collection of cottages built around the green and the mill pond. The building you can see here is an C16 barn that was converted into a schoolhouse by Rowland Egerton- Warburton for the children of his tenants. Next to it is another barn which was converted into a terrace of Tudor style buildings. The original Cowhouse Farm house was converted into a parsonage. It is a very beautiful spot.
Rowland was a keen huntsman and this was reflected in the poetry that he wrote. Some of his rhymes can be found on signposts around the estate.
