Blowsy iris
We were driving past Seagate Irises a couple of years ago during opening hours, and were tempted to call in - and of course, we couldn't leave without buying. We bought three different ones - the labels are probably there somewhere, but I wasn't grovelling around on the ground today (or any day soon). They produced a few flowers last year, but 2 of them have obviously found their feet now.
The yellow one has been and gone - lovely yellow flowers, but very short lived. This white one has loads of flowers at the moment. We can't remember what colour the third one is, and sadly it shows no sign of flowering. It may be a late flowerer, or we may have to wait another year to find out! Just emerging behind it is one of the Bishop of Llandaff dahlias. We made a decision that, beautiful as the plants are, we were not prepared to spend the energy lifting the tubers, and they would have to take their chances in the ground through the winter. We feared this last winter might have been just too cold and too prolonged for them, but they have both appeared in the last couple of weeks.
I've had another almost totally sedentary day, with little noticeable improvement in my hip pain as yet. At least I had a reason for sitting down today - it's rota time again. I've not quite finished it, but will get the final touches done tomorrow.
