Une visiteuse....

Our friend, Linda from Toulouse, is staying for a couple of nights to attend a meeting in Edinburgh.   Patrique - her husband - we call the choir boy, because he sings in several choirs.   So he couldn't get away on this occasion.

I referred to her as "une visiteuse".    She said technically yes, although like us these days feminised nouns are often avoided by the French.  (When did we last have a clerkess, or even an actress, spoken of?)

But, perversely, "une invitée" is very common and acceptable.

Isn't language complicated?

Anyway, it's a delight to host her and return the compliment for several holidays enjoyed in their home, stretching back to 1976!
