The Perfumed Mountaineer
I’ve been reliving some of our Skye adventures with the aid of this book first published in 1949.
William Arthur Poucher was the leading mountaineering photographer in the years after the end of the Second World War. Many walkers will have copies of his guides to various parts of the UK. This volume is full of black and white photos of the ridge, mountains and tops , accompanied by some interesting and helpful route finding text. When he wasn’t walking and climbing he worked as a research chemist and was a skilled perfumier. He generally used a Leica camera.
