The Anubis Gates
This week's home learning project was to make the headdress of an Egyptian god. One child took it to the next level and made this incredible Anubis mask. Of course, teacher's privilege, I get to play around with stuff after school (I should have been a night museum security guard.)
I love teaching this unit about Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, especially as I am still engrossed in the Fingerprints of the Gods book which, at the moment, is focusing on the inexplicably precise measurements of the height and angles of the walls of the Great Pyramid of Giza, as well as the exactitude of its orientation to the four cardinal points. A degree of precision which builders today would be hard pressed to match.
Seriously, though. I think it's a national disgrace the way we have commercialised this marvel with trinkets and toys and posters, so here is a song that uses the ancient modalities and melodies employed by the musicians that lived during this mysterious epoch. Hit it, honky!
