Tilting at windmills
We were out with friends for lunch today - a rare treat! This was the view from the restaurant garden; fields of grass and oilseed rape, a croft, sand dunes and the North Sea stretching to the horizon. And, best of all, some of the windmills in Aberdeen Bay. The scheme is now complete and the 11 windmills will soon be generating 75% of Aberdeen's domestic electricity.
That nice man, Donald Trump, vehemently opposed the construction of the wind farm, unsuccessfully taking legal action against it on three separate occasions, including at the Supreme Court.
The reason that The Donald is against the development is that he thinks it will spoil the view from his golf course, the Trump International Links, which he opened in 2012. The supreme irony is that in building his golf course he trashed a large area of pristine and beautiful sand dunes which had been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
