Solitary Swan

Not sure what happened to its mate as swans are usually to be found in pairs, yet this solitary swan on the river seemed in no hurry to move from the part of the river it calls home.

I have seen the pair on this stretch of the river where they have nested on waterside vegetation in shallow water.

They are known to be monogamous and often reuse the same nest each year and I have seen them on this stretch of water before, restoring or rebuilding their nest as needed.

Which only made me wonder where this one’s mate was. Nesting time or not I usually find them in pairs.
