Movies Were Movies
evening all,
I never really got Charlie Chaplin.
Nor Buster Keaton for that matter, and yet I loved Harold Lloyd and Laurel and Hardy.
Somehow Keaton and Chaplin's comedy never really seemed to reach far enough through time to strike any modern chord with the boy who sat alone on those 1970's Saturday mornings before the household awoke, staring at the catchlights of comedy in the idiot's lantern.
Even now, I still don't feel Chaplin's comedy on anything other than a respectful, clinical level, yet I feel the emotion in other comedic greats of the same era,
Anyway; this is Waterville Ireland.
Famous because it was reputedly Charlie Chaplin's most favourite holiday destination in the world, and his memory and memorabilia still loom large in this town, with a statue, a film festival, a Charlie Chaplin fancy dress shop, and a promenade walk named after him.
Even today you can still see people doing the funny walk, carrying canes and wearing ill fitting hats and clothes,
American and German coach parties I believe they're called..
night all
