Food for Free
Watching them investigate their catch as the tide receeded, and having spoken only last week to Ian who often provides for lunch like this, I was full of ideas and questions.
I was delighted when my interest was rewarded by the generous offer of a Mullet, which today was a large proportion of their catch. Initially it all seems easy, but the net is lead weighted, anchored and sometimes hard to retrieve.
Carrying the fish back through the wooded glades, cold hands were an acceptable trade-off for such a fresh offering from the sea.
The antidote was to be a two stage 'safari-lunch': A shared portion of the finest chips, eaten with a view in the warmth of the car, and twenty minutes later the gutted, filleted Mullet eaten simply, with pepper and lemon on our return. Simple pleasures!
