Giving the 'eave 'o!
A magpie sitting on the edge of a roof at Barton Marina caused much angst among the swallows. This is one of those who kept dive-bombing the bigger bird to try and drive it away. (I'm guessing they had young in their nests, at risk of becoming the magpie's dinner.) For some time the magpie did nothing but blink as they repeatedly flew in its face, but eventually it did move off to the top of the roof, further from the eaves.
It was a lovely venue for a meet-up with Orchid99, where we enjoyed watching the birds on and off the water.
(Enjoyed an impromptu violin recital by my great-niece on our way back to my sister's house. Sounded good as she practised for a performance with the youngest section of her school orchestra.)
