The Bee and the Thistle
Today's the day .............................. to buzz
There is no doubt what is the preferred plant of choice in the garden - for a whole multitude of different kinds of bees.
The Cirsium rivulare 'Atropurpureum', commonly known as the brook or plume thistle, was absolutely buzzing with them. I'm not very good on bee identification (although I know several men and women who are). I would describe this one as being - huge with an orange pair of shorts on - and it was in its element.
And who could blame it for getting excited over this colourful and distinctive flower ...........................?
