Collieston pier

Serpentine - follows the pattern of underpinning rocks. Before it was built in the late 19C, the entry to the harbour was through a gap in those rocks. Village history says that the fishermen warned against building on the north side and what followed was silting. Around the same time steam arrived, boats were soon bigger and the fishing moved to Aberdeen.
