Painting and decorating!!

The Cobham monument at Stowe Landscape Gardens is being painted. The painters are working from ropes using abseiling equipment. Apparently much cheaper than scaffolding. The painters are both expert climbers who regularly climb towers to carry out condition assessments.

The monument was built in 1747-9 by Capability Brown to a design by Gibbs at the end of Lord Cobham's life and became his memorial.

The statue is of Lord Cobham, in Roman armour, commissioned by his wife.

The height of the pillar is 104 feet so not a DIY job.
