Denmark

A day of two halves on this last day of our current visit to Denmark. First, we took a bus trip to Ebeltoft, a pretty little coastal town, which boasts three superlatives: the smallest town hall in Denmark; the Fregatten Jylland, which is the longest wooden ship in the world and, not pictured, Anna Hude, born in Ebeltoft in 1858, the first Danish woman to graduate as a historian (1887), the first to be awarded Copenhagen University's gold medal (1888) and the first to become a Doctor of Philosophy.

Returning to Aarhus, I had a walk along the waterfront, passing the ferry port; people water-skiing without the aid of a boat; and some spectacular new buildings which looked great against a blue sky.

What a great week here, with perfect weather and some lovely food and drink. The Danes are welcoming hosts.
