I post my eBay sales and head for Skirling, where I meet Davey. We inspect a ride-on mower for sale. It’s in pretty good condition and the guy drops the price for a quick sale. He’ll even deliver it. Claire is delighted.

Angus has got his speakers out, but is troubled by missing cables. I fix the water, burn plum prunings, and weed the asparagus. Then it’s time to fire up the bbq. Tom & kids will come round. Neighbours are busy. Dave & Theresa have already eaten. Bill is not picking up.

A summer evening drifts towards dusk.
