The French Invasion tapestry
Ceridwen and ppatrick told us about the very unsuccessful invasion by French troops in February 1797. Stimulated by the French Revolution, a force landed near Fishguard. Seen before they made land, they were soon taken prisoner. The local Welsh citizens assisted British troops in repelling the invaders. This was the last time an invading army set foot on Britain.
To mark the victory, a long tapestry was produced in 1997. We were told how to get to the Town Hall, and went there at the start of our drive to Cheddar, where we now are. My blip is of of an early piece of the tapestry.
I’ve included three extras; more than my ‘allowance’. The first is the White Hart, a pub where we had a light meal this evening. The other two are birds seen as we sat awhile in the Inn?s garden. The first is a European magpie. The second is, I think, a jackdaw. A third bird was there as well; possibly a rook. It was too small to be raven.
