You go first!
No, you go.
Uh uh, Im not goin' - that's a long way down. You go.
Okay, I'm going!
My imaginary conversation between three little mallard ducklings who were trying to descend a big rock to get to Mama. She was encouraging them (or maybe berating - always hard to tell with ducks) to just go ahead an take the plunge. She reminded them that Wood Ducklings take a huge leap on their very first day; so why should they be a couple of little sissies. After all, they are bigger than the wood ducks and should, therefore, be braver.
Finally, there was only one little duckling left on the rock, running back and forth, trying to find a way down. Eventually, he ran into some vegetation on the rock, slipped, and fell down to the level where Mama was waiting. He bounced when he hit; no harm done; and off into the water.
We went to the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens, always a favorite place, where we got in a quick stroll before the skies opened and the rain started. We were there long enough for me to 1) get a bunch of cute duckling shots as well as a couple of nice wood ducks, and 2) sit in a fresh pile of duck poo. While wearing white-ish shorts. Oh well.
We've got a red eye back to NJ tonight, which will get us in tomorrow morning around 5:30. I expect we'll tuck into bed for a few hours when we get back just to try to get a little sleep since sleeping on the plane will be nearly impossible.
It's been a wonderful visit with Mom and Dad - too short, as always.
