A long day ends.
We have driven all the way down to the top of the foot of Italy in Campania, near the bit which hurts if you do your bootlaces up too tightly.
(What on earth am I going on about?)
Anyway it's definitely a Brit free zone, I think they all go as far as Tuscany and then get nervous and don't go any further. The people working on the campsite think we're German!
We went to Montecassino , where the WW2 Battle of Montecassino took place from January to May 1944. It is an abbey which was a German stronghold, and the Allies bombed it to pieces but sustained heavy losses. It was horrifically damaged but has been restored and is now a tranquil peaceful place with rose gardens and lizards darting about among the stones. It was a beautiful cool sanctuary on a scorching hot day and was most interesting. See LooseCanon"s blip for a photo of it.

I had a particular interest in seeing this place as my Uncle Bob fought there and was decorated with a Military Medal for his actions.
ANYway we are now by the seaside near Paestum where there are beautifully preserved old temples which we hope to see tomorrow. We are right by the beach and I just caught the sunset.
