Poppies and Daisies
We had a rendezvous with No 1 son and the senior granddaughter at Westmorland Services this morning, to hand over the Raf. He was so happy to see them! We had a picnic brunch before going our separate ways.(Extra)
The sun was shining and it was still early, so TM and I decided on a detour into the Lakes. We went to Haweswater, which was delightfully peaceful, and we could have had a lovely walk had the heavens not opened .... So we had a lovely late lunch/early tea instead.
As the road home led close to Carlisle, and I'd noticed (on Blip of course) that the Weeping Window sculpture was on display at the Castle, so we made a detour (a long detour, twice round the city centre before we found our way into the car park).
It was worth it. By then the sun was out again and the poppies were a brilliant splash of red against the Castle walls.(Extra)
I liked the way that individual poppies were planted into the grass at the foot of the wall, and the daisies are coming up amongst them. It's a very fine way to commemorate the loss of life in World War One.
It's a little strange at home without the large black presence of Raf.
