Prestongrange House

This is a new discovery for us, courtesy of a physiotherapy appointment at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club whose clubhouse this is.

Detailed early history of the building is scant but it is known to be in existence by the late C16 on land first given to Robert de Quincy by King William in 1165 and feued to Newbattle Abbey who farmed there. Mark Ker, as Abbot of Newbattle in the C16 reclaimed the land and built - or enlarged an existing building (probably a tower house) for his own use.

In 1958, the property was purchased by the Coal Industry Social & Welfare Organisation and held in trust by the Musselburgh Miners' Charitable Society for its golfing sub-section, the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club. During restoration work in 1962 a C16 painted ceiling was uncovered, this was removed to Merchiston Castle (now NapierUniversity)

This is the view if the rear of the building, as seen from the approach road.
