Oban -lovely little harbour

The bus was 20 minutes late again, (bus time table aficionados, that are beginning to think we can’t read a time table – well nor can our fellow travellers then!).  Having exchanged pleasantries with the driver – who, of course had to say hello to R. our dog, I asked which stop was the best one to get off at in Oban, I was taken aback by his response “Oban? It’s a little hole and any stop will be only a short walk to everywhere”.  For comedy value, I only wish he would get a job in tourist information!
Oban, the seaford capital of Scotland, famed for its fish restaurants, as well as the ferries to the islands and Highlands.  We bought a couple of lush freshly made crab and salmon sandwiches from fishmonger on the harbour, sat down to eat them on the wall, and within a second (before I had even unwrapped mine), a gull the size of an albatross, swooped down and snatched the Salmon one from D’s hand…..to add insult to injury, having fed the gull population of Oban it returned and sat beside him.  D doesn’t learn, as the same thing happened to him in Sidmouth a few months ago!
The tower (top right) is McCraig’s tower, built of Bonawe granite (1897), its has a 200m circumference  with 94 lancet arches. Sadly the owner, who based the construction on the colosseum in Rome, died before its completition, so was never the museum and art gallery he planned, but is the lasting monument he wanted.
*extra - just loved this guys style
