Close to home
It's the last day of Liz's visit. The time has flown by and I shall be really sorry to see her leave. It has been great having her here, 17 years since her last trip up here, and I hope it isn't another 17 years before she comes back again! She first visited 34 years ago, so there is a bit of a trend developing . . . !
This morning we went over to the East Side beach, where Ollie was the star of Liz's video as he enjoyed wallowing in the shallows! Her friend M had a walk along the beach while we dawdled and chatted and looked for shells and watched the waves. . . .
Onward to Windwick. The cliffs were covered with nesting fulmars and the air thick with them, swooping in close to have a good look at us! Considering her fear of birds at close range, Liz coped amazingly well. Dozens of photos taken!
After lunch, for Liz and me, it was a trip to the Tomb of the Eagles. A wonderful walk round the cliffs, lots of wild flowers and birds, as well as an exploration of the tomb itself. Terrific cliffs, superb views and the sun managed to show itself too. Poor Mike was stuck at home, working on the shed, but he got lots done and it's really coming on.
The last supper was roast chicken followed by a sort of Eton Mess, which was accompanied by a strawberry sauce with the addition of some Lindisfarne mead which Liz had brought us! It proved to be a great success, as had the whole day. Ending on a high, it has really been a super day and a visit I will remember for a long time.
Anyone able to identify the bird in extras, please feel free!
