Pyrotechnic Symmetry

Annual Bonfire bash on Worden Park. Please can someone explain to me why we do fireworks when Guy Fawkes and his mates failed to blow up parliament and why we do bonfires with a Guy Fawkes on top when the poor unfortunate chap was hung drawn and quartered?
