putting YOUR money to work... EFFECTIVELY

About three weeks ago or whenever it was we last had some noticeably powerful wind-gusting we noticed that one of the poles on the roof opposite adorned with several UHF aerials had been removed by the wind from its already precarious position and was dangling slightly over the gutter. Although it would only fall a couple of storeys and would probably have its fall arrested by the cables it wouldn't be a very nice thing to have swing into your face unexpectedly. The council advised that they'd send round a bloke with a clipboard to inspect it within the week though it took them until today to get it sorted. One bloke to drive the lorry and operate its cherry-picker platform, one bloke to stand in the basket with him and grab the aerial when in the right place and FIVE MORE to stand on the street opposite during the retrieval operation who then all rushed back to the van when the platform returned to the ground to help kick the aerial in and put it in the bin. All, I assume, getting Sunday overtime rates. Luckily I was also getting some Sunday overtime by logging into work to submit jobs every half hour or so in between finishing off the remaining bits of the floor so I can't really complain. Although fiddling about the the various bits of boxed-in waste-pipe underneath the window, screwing and unscrewing things, shuffling about on hands and knees and standing on a very narrow piece of standable-on unfloored-floor whilst trying to fit another bit is exercise of a sort I didn't manage to walk anywhere apart from making a couple of trips to the bin but did at least get everything finished, get most of the neath-bed contents restored and get all the bits of dust out of my nose by the end of the day.
