Late and tired

What a day! It started with news of a train derailment which cancelled all the trains to Aberdeen. I was on my way up there for work, and had to drive instead. That meant a 06:00 start, but of course, everyone else was driving too. So 11 miles out of Aberdeen the A90 turned into a car-park. Frantic phone calls back to my office and to my client to try to alert them to the likelihood that I would be late for the course, although luckily I got there just before the course start time.

The course went brilliantly, with a really lovely bunch of people, but it was a full day compressed into 6 hours, so I hardly had a chance to draw breath, let alone take a photo. Then at the end of the day straight back into the car to drive home. After 30 miles I realised that I was incredibly tired (it was my 8th straight day of delivering training courses, as well as hundreds of miles covered in between days). My reactions were slowing, and I was frightened of being a danger to myself and others on the road.

I pulled off into a truck stop and made an incongruous sight as the only female, dressed in business wear, eating a cheese roll and cup of builders' tea alongside all the truckers. They were lovely to me - letting me jump the queue and making me laugh. When I felt sufficiently refreshed I did the rest of the journey, finally getting home after a 15-hour day.

I was so tired that I could hardly get out of the car, so my emergency blip is the dashboard at the end of my journey!

Good night everyone. I'm off to sleep for a week.
