John, I'm Only Dad Dancing
I don't like that term, nor Dad Rock... the only time I Dad Dance is behind closed doors to embarrass Ms H, and it usually works! Makes her grumpy anyway. However, if one was to watch Future Islands, they might think, 'oh yeah Dad Dancer.'... but Sam (of Future Islands) has taken it to a new art form... so comfortable with it... getting cheers from the audience... moves a plenty you'd rarely see a grown man do in public... if you ever see him... laugh for a few minutes... then be astonished he is still owning it!
Yeah, we were off to the Usher Hall tonight, minus Ms H who had her S6 school leavers ball at the same time. We did have a ticket for her but had to sell it. We coincided both events by driving her in then hanging about at brew dog until she was ready to leave. Oh yeah, Future Islands... fab... we saw them last year at Green Man... this time much longer. A voice that can go as low as you can imagine, moves (as discussed earlier) I am in envy of and passion to die for. You can see the band are all up at the back... he needs the whole stage.
We arrived in plenty of time to be in the front couple of rows, but with the Usher Hall sloping up, we took a mid hall centre position and had great views and sound. The support act, Idles, were a surprise... described as Punk Rock... what a mix of a bill with Future Islands (who I would say are are dancy). They came out and soon won us all over, a great reception, and boy... one of the guitarists stomped about like a mix of Mick Jagger and Angus Young, more in fact. Although I might not choose to listen to them again, they were well entertaining and genuinely appreciative of the great response they got.
An amazing mix of all ages tonight, from 2 lads next to us who couldn't stop dancing to a couple of old grumpy ba..bas who tried to stop anyone having fun from having fun... like the 2 lads... but it didn't work... fab night.
As Ms H was collected at 12:30 and whisked home for another early start tomorrow :-/
