Nesting

We put out the wasp traps about three weeks ago, hoping to keep them from building nests on our deck.  We caught several and so far have only found this one nest behind the corner support of the privacy fence.  I always feel a little sad to knock them down but wasps are so mean!  I've been stung several times and I really don't want them raising a family on my deck!  So, I've been checking it and as soon as the "mother" leaves, down it goes.  If you look closely, you will see a tiny egg in the upper right chamber.

I am grateful that it doesn't seem that there are as many wasps this year as last!
