Widows & Bairns

Had a day out at St Abbs to wander the cliff tops and watch the sea birds nesting. They are busy on their nests at the moment but in just a few weeks they will be away and the cliffs will be quiet again.
After our walk a sudden hunger took us to Eyemouth for award winning fish and chips. A delicious Sunday lunch! We sat near this sculpture of the Widows & Bairns of the fishermen lost in a great storm in October 1881. It was sculpted by our friend Jill Watson and their is another just above Cove of the families there looking out to sea for their lost menfolk.
